This Losing It With Jillian episode 6, Yavapai-Apache Indian Reservation, featured the Plunkett-Marquez family and the entire tribe. Jillian Michaels had to work really hard getting the people of the nation to want to lose weight and be healthy, but she accomplished her goal.

The show started in Camp Verde, AZ, with Jillian driving up to the reservation as the family was preparing for a roast in the ground. The mother, Cora-Lei, says “Now it’s up to us to make our dreams come true.”

There is the  meeting with Dr. Van Herle where the family learns about their current health status. Cora-Lei, learned that she weighed 203 pounds and she should weigh 120. She had high LDL cholesterol and high blood sugar as well.

Then there is Delight, Cora-Lei’s sister and age 21, who weighed 257 and should weight 132. Brandon is Cora-Lei’s son and weight in at 253. At 15 years old, he should weight 158. Then there is Delores, Cora-Lei’s mother who has diabetes.

Off to the gym they all go for their Jillian workout. Delight is the first to crack. Jillian tells her “You are 21 years old, make a choice.” “I can’t” says Delight. She is promptly told by Jillian to leave the gym. She later, like they usually do, decides to stay in the gym and keep working out. Everyone else seemed to be struggling a bit but they didn’t give up. Cora-Lei was very determined.

Next it’s off to a big tribal welcoming party for Jillian. What’s on the menu? “Traditional” Indian food –fry bread?? What is this stuff? Fried white enriched bleach flour dough fried in lard. Yuck. Jillian ends up throwing all of the fry bread into the trash and a young kid even threatens to throw his on her. She says, “It’s better than going into your body” and he throws it in her face! Um…hello? Tribal leaders? Can someone come check this KID?!

Jillian talks about the fry bread later with Cora-Lei. Cora-Lei says that they have “evolved into this” from getting block cheese and bags of flour when their way of life was destroyed by the government. So Jillian says “Fry bread is…seemingly a representation of everything horrible that has ever happened to your people.” Probably the most profound statement of the show.

However, the tribal elder, Don Decker said that their tradition teaches them to never throw food away. Jillian argues that what she threw away was not food, but that it was poison. He agrees.

Dr. Van Herle is brought in again to do a lecture on tips on how to prevent type 2 diabetes in the family, but unfortunately, the turnout was quite low. It was just not catching on and the people were not ready to change. Jillian says “Looking around, everybody’s obese” and “These people need this.”

Delight says that it is just so hard to say “NO,” something we hear a lot when people are trying to lose weight. “Say no to what? To Diabetes? To cancer? To heart disease? To a doughnut? To what?” is Jillian’s response.

Finally, the lady who runs the daycare, Ophelia, helps to start the Just Move It program and they plan an “epic walk” for May 1, 2010. With lots of flyers and promoting with a megaphone, the people turn out.

What Plan Do They Use On Losing It With Jillian?

Cora-Lei speaks to the tribe after the walk and says “The creator has sent us an angel” and throw the challenge out to the whole tribe to lose weight in the next 6 weeks because Jillian will be back. Jillian then explains JillianMichaels.com and offers a free membership to the entire tribe to try her personalized recipes, meal plans, and workouts.

After 6 weeks, here are the family’s results:

Losing It With Jillian Episode 6 Results

Cora-Lei – lost 33 pounds and 6 dress sizes

Delight – lost 30 pounds and dropped blood sugar 30%.

Delores – lost 18 pounds, glucose dropped 21%, and cholesterol dropped 43%

Brandon – lost 52 pounds and plans to try out for both football and basketball

Overall, the whole family lost over 150 pounds. They decided to start a 5 week program to benefit the whole tribe and Jillian gave a check from JillianMichaels.com to fund the program. They didn’t say how much this check was, but I assume it was $50K like the other shows.
