We all know that new diets pop up on a regular basis but few of them have been more controversial in their early stages as the K-E diet (a.k.a. feeding tube diet) which uses a feeding tube to help you lose pounds fast.
The K-E diet has gained particular attention with brides-to-be who are often desperate to lose that last 10 or 20 pounds before their big day.
However, you have to ask yourself if you would be willing to run around for 10 days with a feeding tube down your throat and carrying a meal bag.
Well, for some people, the answer is a clear “yes” as they are willing to pay up to $1500.00 for the chance to get rid of these unwanted pounds.
Many experts suggest that such rapid weight loss is not a good thing for the body but that is debatable. The real question arises if you are unable to keep the weight off in the long run. What happens if you drop 20 pounds for your wedding day and a few weeks later it is back. That doesn’t seem like it would create the ideal emotional state to start off a new marriage.
So, what is the K-E diet and how does it work? According to a story on Good Morning America, here are the basics…
The K-E diet, which boasts promises of shedding 20 pounds in 10 days, is an increasingly popular alternative to ordinary calorie-counting programs. The program has dieters inserting a feeding tube into their nose that runs to the stomach.
They’re fed a constant slow drip of protein and fat, mixed with water, which contains zero carbohydrates and totals 800 calories a day. Body fat is burned off through a process called ketosis, which leaves muscle intact, Dr. Oliver Di Pietro of Bay Harbor Islands, Fla., said.
“It is a hunger-free, effective way of dieting,” Di Pietro said. “Within a few hours and your hunger and appetite go away completely, so patients are actually not hungry at all for the whole 10 days. That’s what is so amazing about this diet.”
