Yesterday the FDA released the calorie count draft guidelines to fast food restaurants. These are the guidelines explaining how chain restaurants (with 20 or more locations) will have to post their calorie count info. This gives us as consumers a bit of insight into how everything will look come spring of 2011.

There are a few places already following the guidelines. I recently saw at a  Jack In The Box, nutritional info was listed at their drive thru and there were actually several healthier options. But wooooaaaahhhhh, watch the sodium!  I think the guidelines will be great for when people are in a bind and just have to have something to eat. So, what will it look like?

The calorie count guidelines state that the calorie count must be displayed as big as either the menu item name or the price and be similar in appearance. Other nutritional info like fat and sodium must be available as well, but it doesn’t have to be posted. Items that are short term (60 days of less) don’t need nutritional info posted either. This was done to prevent the restaurants from having to do too much work.

My question is this… do you think having the calorie count info posted will prevent people from ordering the obscenely high calorie items? I am anxious to see how the calorie count guidelines affect our waistlines.

Also, you can do the workouts whether you have 10 minutes, 20, 30 or 40 to spare. So if you are just waiting for dinner to finish, you can fit in a quick 10 minute dance!

Donna Richardson Joyner was chosen by Oprah Winfrey as one of the Top 5 Fitness Instructors so she definitely knows what she is doing.

Mostly, I think these Body Gospel DVDs are FUN, and that is really what it is all about. Fun is what is going to keep you turning them over and over again without feeling bored. What is the Body Gospel Workout all about? Faith, Fitness and FUN!

Body Gospel - Have faith in your weight loss

Featured recently on CNN, “Anything You Want Diet” is becoming very popular and nutritionists and dietitians are thrilled.  But, of course, as in anything, there are some rules.

Anything You Want means that it has to be natural, have no preservatives, no chemicals and not be processed.  Think of whole grains, beans, even dairy is allowed as long as it isn’t processed cheese.

The “Anything You Want” diet really helps to boost the idea of returning to natural food the way it is found on the farm. Real farms, not giant factory farms. Shop at farmer’s markets, join a co-op, stay on the perimeter of the grocery store and watch pounds melt off.

It’s often recommended before you start clean eating like this, to detox your body of the toxins and chemicals already built up. I recommend the lemonade diet which is the Master Cleanse in pill form (so there is no starvation, you get to start “clean eating” right away.

Hopefully the “Anything You Want” diet will catch on and change the way people are eating. Good luck!

By now you have probably seen that Sara Rue has lost quite a bit of weight and she has been picked up to host “Shedding for the Wedding“. This new reality series, which doesn’t have a start date yet but they have started casting, will feature 20 couples all living in one house. Each week they are weighed in as a team to see who has lost the most and the least with the lowest having to leave the house. So what does the last remaining couple get? A free wedding!

Sara is a great choice for the hostess because obviously she knows a thing or two about dropping pounds after losing 50 pounds on Jenny Craig, one of the more popular celebrity diets lately. Through her celebrity weight loss, she first thought she would only lose 30 pounds, then upped the ante to 40 pounds and finally weighed in having lost 50 pounds. She also was only running about a minute when she first started and now can run for two hours without stopping. That’s a great accomplishment!

However, Sara recently stated that she will never be a skinny girl. Uh, newsflash! You are pretty skinny there Sara (picture is after just 40 pounds) so look around outside of Hollyweird and get a gander at how some normal folk look.

So right now you are sitting there in front of your computer wondering “How to get skinny thighs quick.” Well that is half the problem. You are sitting there. Look down. What do you see? How to Get Skinny Thighs With Exercise

Next you need to tone the thighs, not bulk them up, but tone them. So try this exercise. Lean your back against a wall and slowly lower yourself into a seated position. Hold for 10 seconds and rest for 10 seconds. Then repeat 5-6 times. This will give you just enough muscle to give you a nice lean thigh.

The other tip for how to get skinny thighs is to watch what you eat. Garbage in = Garbage out.  Keep your body energized with fresh vegetables and good protein sources like fish and beans. Watch the carb intake and definitely no sugar. Drink a lot of water and perhaps do a lemon cleanse to detoxify your body every few weeks.

We just read a great new article on CNN that tries to answer the question “How much should I lift?”

The weights at the gym can sometimes be a tricky mine field. Lift too little and get no results. Lift to much and you can get tears.

I see people at my gym all the time adjusting and readjusting the machines and I can’t seem to figure out any rhyme or reason to their methods. One day they are lifting huge amounts of weight just 1 time and then they are doing more repetitions with lighter weights on other days. So where is the happy medium that will build the most muscle?

How Much Should I Lift to Get Max Muscles?

According to a new study just reported on CNN, it might be best to lift at 30% until failure. This is great news for me because I have recently been lifting max load for 10-12 reps and 3 sets.  I would much rather lift at 30% until I reach failure.

The CNN study reported failure at the point where your muscles start to jiggle from trying to lift. It’s still tough to do because you are ultimately going to do more reps but I prefer it to the grunting and grinding of lifting a large amount of weight. It’s also great for people who want to lift weights but think the amount they lift is so small that it doesn’t matter.

The study was done at McMaster University and published in PlosOne journail. Let us know if this answers your question “How much should I lift?” and what your results are!

Brian Fugere, who has synovial sarcoma of the lung, has run a marathon with his IV pole during chemo. I think this one just about takes the cake on the inspirational scale doesn’t it? Sure it took him over 7 hours but since this marathon, he has also done an ultimate marathon, 100 miles, in less than 24 hours! Plus he has raised tons of money for cancer research.

If you haven’t seen this very inspirational story yet, check it out here on CNN. I like the reference to LiveStrong and the idea of keeping moving no matter what. You don’t have to take it lying down. Brian Fugere is a perfect example of that.

Jennifer Hudson Before and After pictures have been popping up all over the Internet and we just have to congratulate her on her tremendous weight loss.

Jennifer went from a size 16 to a size 6 using Weight Watchers which is a very good, sound eating and exercise plan.

Besides the Jennifer Hudson weight loss, there have been some other celebrity weight loss efforts in the news too. Demi Moore and Ashton Kutcher are doing a lemonade master cleanse and Kym Johnson from Dancing With the Stars is using the pill version of the lemonade diet.

But Jennifer’s weight loss is a bit different, taking her from a plus-size woman to a very trim size 6 which is quite dramatic. She says that this is her natural size and I hope her body agrees with her. Her boyfriend isn’t quite convinced yet though. Apparently he is missing some parts of her that we don’t always want to lose when we are slimming down!

Though we thought she always looked great, we applaud her efforts to be healthy and her ability to create this positive change in her life after the horrible murders of her mother, brother and nephew.  Jennifer Hudson before and after pictures are truly an inspiration to those who want to see that it CAN be done, no matter what the circumstances.
